SIMOPS - Simultaneous Operations
Simultaneous Operations (SIMOPS) occur when two or more potentially conflicting activities are being executed in the same location at the same time.
The resulting combined hazards are to be assessed and proper control measures to be implemented in order to reduce the related risks to As Low as Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) level. The mitigation actions should be continuously reviewed according to work site progress and their implementation on the area should be continuously monitored
The SIMOPs will be reviewed at the workshop. Approach and Topics to be covered include, but are not limited to:
- Identifying the combined operations
- Production/ maintenance operations
- Construction
- Heavy lifts
- Transportation
- Tie-in and interface requirements
- Execution of Risk Assessment for EACH task separately
- Identification of the additional hazards introduced by the SIMOPS

- Verifying the adequacy of the planned control measure

Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA)
A cost-benefit analysis compares the projected or estimated costs and benefits (or opportunities) associated with a project decision to determine whether it makes sense from a business perspective.
Cost-benefit analysis involves tallying up all costs of a project or decision and subtracting that amount from the total projected benefits of the project or decision. It is data driven. Our consultants’ CBA analysis:
- Allows organizations to evaluate a decision or potential project free of opinions or personal biases, by offering an agnostic and evidence-based evaluation of your options to help your business operation become more data-driven and logical.
Helps you uncover less-than-obvious factors such as indirect or intangible costs and benefits by outlining every potential cost and benefit associated with a project
ALARP Demonstration
If your risk analyses show that the risks on your site are intolerable, you are required by law to stop and adopt a different approach. But even when the risks are deemed tolerable or broadly acceptable, you still may still need to demonstrate that they are ‘As Low as Reasonably Practicable’ (ALARP).
In extreme cases, this is done by carrying out a Cost Benefit Analysis. This involves weighing the CapEx and OpEx costs of additional measures against the health and safety benefit they would bring. If the costs can be shown to be grossly disproportionate, then there is no requirement to implement the additional measures.
